Air Fryer Sesame Chicken

This popular Chinese food is easy to prepare in the air fryer.  Without any added fat, the chicken will be crispy and tender and the sauce will remind you of the traditional Sesame Chicken dish served in most Chinese restaurants.  Try this Air Fryer  Sesame Chicken and it may become your go-to favorite Chinese dinner!

Ingredients
  

Chicken

  • 1 pound chicken thighs or breast boneless and skinless
  • 1/2 cup potato starch
  • olive oil

Sauce

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp orange juice
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions
 

Chicken

  • Cut the chicken into bit sized pieces (1 inch each)
  • Place the chicken into a large bowl and add the potato starch to coat evenly
  • Place the coated chicken in the air fryer basket
  • Spray the chicken generously with olive oil.
  • Air fry at 350°F for 14 minutes, flipping chicken halfway

Sauce

  • Add the brown sugar, soy sauce, orange juice, hoisin sauce, ginger, and garlic powder to a small saucepan, and bring to a slight simmer
  • Once the sauce starts to simmer, stir in the cornstarch and water, mix well until thickened (about 3-4 minutes).
  • Toss cooked chicken with the sauce
  • Plate, serve, and enjoy!

Notes

  • The exact cooking time will depend on size if chicken and the type of air fry. Always use a meat thermometer and make sure sure internal temperature of the chicken is 165°F.
  • Make the sauce while the chicken is cooking, the sauce and the chicken should take about the same amount of time.
