A burger joint classic, the onion ring, but now with way less fat than usual, but giving up none of the taste. An easy side you can make from simple ingredients you have in your pantry.
Ingredients
- 1 Onion
- 1/2 cup All Purpose Flour
- 1 tablespoon of Baking Powder
- 1 Egg
- 1 teaspoon of ground pepper
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- Bread Crumbs to coat
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 360F
- Cut the onion into 0.15 inch thick rings, and separate each layer, so one slice gives several rings of various sizes
- Mix the flour, baking powder and salt together in a bowl
- In another bowl mix the eggs and pepper and beat well
- Place the bread crumbs in a third bowl
- Now one at a time, cover an onion ring in the flour mix, then the egg, then the bread crumbs, at each stage ensure good coverage and shake of any excess
- Spray the air fryer basket with a little oil
- Lay the rings in basket, one level, and spray the tops with oil
- Air fry for 5 minutes at 360F

Great inspiration for owning an air fryer, thanks

Very good, & crunchy but a little too heavy on the ground pepper, I’d use 1/2 the amount and add some Parmesan cheese to the bread crumbs for additional flavor and calories 😉

I’m having a problem making onion rings with my air fryer. I follow the recipe to the letter, but the Panko crumbs won’t stick to the onions. I’m using the seasoned flour, beaten egg, Panko crumb dips, but it just doesn’t stick. Any techniques or additional ingredients you can suggest.
BTW, they still taste great, but are not coated much with the crispy breadcrumbs.
Thanks,
